Special Olympics International Meeting 2010 in Figueres
With more than 1300 athletes playing different sports such as basketball, football, tennis, athletics, … adapted to psychic disabled persons, the Special Olympics International Meeting 2010 took place in Figueres during a great weekend (from 22 to 24 of October).
There are three main objectives:
Offer a sports competition for people with intellectual disabilities, socially visible, with various disciplines and international character.
The promotion of sports among people with intellectual disabilities, adding benefits to improve their quality of life.
Be a speaker and announce to the world the reality of people with intellectual disabilities and hence the ability to make visible the need for integration and acceptance by society.
Figueres, with a population of 45.000 inhabitants, is a town located in the North East of Catalonia (South West of Europe) and is the most important town near the border between France and Spain.
Figueres has been known around the world thanks to Salvador Dalí (May 11, 1904 – January 23, 1989), the great painter that gives its name to the Dalí Museum, one of the most visited museums in Catalonia.
